금융 서비스 회사의 전 CEO, 1억 5천만 달러 투자 사기 혐의 유죄 인정
한국 하청업체 제이엔제이 코리아, 입찰담합 및 미군 사취 혐의에 대해 900만 달러 배상 판결

| Former CEO of Financial Services Firm Pleads Guilty to $150M Investment Fraud Conspiracy In 2005, Roberto Gustavo Cortes Ripalda of Key Biscayne founded financial services company Biscayne Capital. Between approximately 2013 and 2018, Cortes and others orchestrated a scheme to defraud Biscayne Capital clients through a series of lies regarding how the firm would use client funds. Cortes and his co-conspirators also invested clients’ money without their knowledge, and then attempted to cover their tracks by providing investors with fraudulent account statements. By September 2018, the scheme collapsed, and Biscayne Capital went into liquidation, causing more than $155 million in losses to Biscayne Capital clients. Cortes pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud. | Subcontractor Sentenced to Pay Nearly $9 Million in a Criminal Fine and Restitution for Rigging Bids and Defrauding the US Military J&J Korea Inc., a company based in the Republic of Korea (South Korea), was sentenced today by a federal judge in Austin, Texas, to pay nearly $9 million dollars in a criminal fine and restitution for rigging bids and committing fraud in connection with subcontract work at US military installations in South Korea. | 3M Settles U.S. Probe Over Tourist Trips for China Officials 3M agreed to pay more than $6.5 million to settle a US foreign corruption probe after marketing employees of a China-based subsidiary took healthcare officials on secret tourist excursions to the US and Australia. 3M’s China unit funded overseas tourist travel for officials at Chinese state-owned companies, claiming the trips were legitimate outings to conferences, educational events and healthcare facilities, the SEC said. The agency said the conduct violated the books and records and internal controls provisions of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. 3M’s China unit paid for the travel, meant to induce the officials to buy 3M products, from at least 2014 to 2017, the agency said. 3M, 중국 공무원의 관광 여행에 대한 미국 조사 합의 미국 증권거래위원회(SEC)는 3M의 중국 자회사에서 중국 의료 공무원들에게 미국과 호주로 비밀 관광 여행을 보내준 것에 대해 해외부패방지법(FCPA) 조항을 위반하였다고 발표했습니다. 3M의 중국 자회사는 해당 혐의를 합의하기 위해 650만 달러 (한화 약 88억원)를 지불하기로 동의했습니다. 3M의 중국 사업부가 중국 국영 기업 관계자들의 해외 관광 여행자금을 지원한 것을 회의, 교육 행사 및 의료 시설에 대한 합법적인 활동이라고 주장했다고 미국 증권거래위원회(SEC)는 밝혔습니다. 하지만 SEC는 이러한 행위가 해외부패방지법(FCPA)의 회계규정 중 ‘장부 및 기록’과 ‘내부통제’ 조항을 위반한 것이라고 발표했습니다. 또한 SEC는 3M직원이 관광 비용을 지불하기 위해 여행사와 공모하여 인보이스의 청구금액을 부풀렸으며, 2016년 2월부터 2018년 9월까지 부적절한 관광 활동 비용으로 25만 4,000달러(한화 약 3억4천만원)를 지불했다고 밝혔습니다. |
